In June 2023, I found exactly what I had been looking for at Herb Chambers Porsche of Burlington—a 2020 Porsche Macan GTS finished in Volcano Grey Metallic, a color that looks almost black until the sunlight reveals its metallic depth. I wasn't looking for just another luxury SUV. I wanted the driver's Macan. This GTS checked every box. It had the performance options that mattered: Sport Chrono, adaptive air suspension, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, BOSE audio, carbon fiber trim, panoramic roof, heated windshield, and heated steering wheel. Just as importantly, it was ordered without the Driver Assistance Package. No adaptive cruise control. No lane-keeping assist. No electronic nanny systems interrupting the drive. It was a Porsche built for someone who enjoyed driving, and that's exactly why it appealed to me.
Favorite Feature
The Macan GTS proves that practicality and performance don't have to be opposites. The 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 delivers effortless power, while the PDK transmission is simply brilliant. The adaptive air suspension gives it two personalities: comfortable enough for long highway trips yet remarkably composed on winding roads. The Volcano Grey Metallic paint is one of Porsche's best colors. In the garage it appears almost black, understated and elegant. In the sun, the metallic finish comes alive and highlights every curve of the bodywork.
Best memory
Every Porsche has a split personality. The Macan GTS simply makes it available at the press of a button. For me, that's SPORT+. One press and the transformation is immediate. The throttle becomes razor sharp, the PDK fires off lightning-fast shifts, the adaptive air suspension lowers, the exhaust takes on a deeper voice, and the entire SUV feels tighter, lighter, and more eager. It stops behaving like a luxury SUV and starts feeling like a Porsche sports car that just happens to have room for luggage and a weekend getaway. It's the feature I look forward to every time I get behind the wheel. Whether it's an empty highway on-ramp, a winding back road, or simply pulling away from a traffic light, SPORT+ brings out the personality that defines the GTS. That's what I love most about this car. It isn't trying to be the fastest SUV on the road or the most luxurious. It strikes the perfect balance. Comfortable, quiet, and refined when I want it to be—and with one push of a button, transformed into a machine that reminds me why Porsche has earned its reputation for building some of the world's greatest driver's cars. For me, SPORT+ isn't just another drive mode, it's the reason I bought a Macan GTS.
