I had been searching for the right Mercedes-Benz coupe for quite some time. This wasn't just another car purchase—it was a gift to myself. I was determined to find a Certified Pre-Owned example with the exact specifications and color combination I wanted. That search eventually led me to Herb Chambers Flagship Motorcars in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. There it was—a 2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK 550 in Arctic White. What made it special: One California owner Only 15,405 original miles Certified Pre-Owned A remarkable coincidence: the original owner's name was also Chris The moment I saw it, I knew the search was over. It was the right car with the right history, and one that had clearly been cared for from the very beginning.

Favorite Feature

The CLK 550 represents one of the last classic Mercedes-Benz grand touring coupes before the design language changed. Every drive reminds me why I waited for this particular car. Pillarless Coupe One of Mercedes-Benz's signature design elements. With all four windows down, there's no B-pillar interrupting the side profile, creating a clean, uninterrupted opening that gives the car an elegant, airy feel unlike most modern coupes. Harman Kardon® Sound System The premium Harman Kardon audio system delivers rich, balanced sound that makes every drive more enjoyable, whether it's a spirited back-road drive or a relaxed highway cruise. Bi-Xenon Headlamps The sculpted front lighting gives the CLK its unmistakable face. Beyond their timeless design, the bi-xenon headlamps provide excellent nighttime visibility while remaining true to the understated elegance of Mercedes-Benz. AMG Sport Package The subtle AMG styling enhances the CLK without overpowering it. The sportier front and rear fascias, side skirts, wheels, and suspension give the car a more athletic stance while preserving the refined character that makes it such an exceptional grand tourer.

Best memory

Every great car eventually becomes part of a story. For me, the most memorable one with the CLK 550 was a road trip to Loudoun County, Virginia, to spend time with a close group of fellow automotive enthusiasts. The destination mattered, but the drive was the real experience. The rolling roads through Virginia's wine country were exactly what the CLK was built for. The naturally aspirated V8, comfortable grand touring cabin, and effortless highway manners made every mile enjoyable. With the windows down and the pillarless coupe design on full display, the car felt perfectly at home winding through vineyards and quiet country roads. One of the highlights of the trip was stopping at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum near Dulles). Photographing the CLK alongside one of the world's greatest collections of aviation history was a fitting moment—two very different forms of engineering excellence brought together in a single frame. It's a trip I'll always associate with this car: good friends, unforgettable roads, Virginia wine country, and an afternoon surrounded by machines built to inspire.

Events attended

German Car Day at the historic Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, Massachusetts. Set on the grounds of America's oldest car collection, the event brings together an exceptional mix of German automotive engineering—from vintage Mercedes-Benz models and classic Porsches to modern AMG and BMW performance cars. The CLK felt right at home among the collection. Its timeless pillarless coupe design, naturally aspirated V8, and understated elegance represented an era when Mercedes-Benz blended performance, craftsmanship, and restraint into a true grand touring coupe.
